Chiesa del Marchese Loffredo di Cassibile
The Church of the Marquis Loffredo of Cassibile
It is the oldest church in Cassibile, built by the Marquis Loffredo from whom the structure takes its name. Dedicated to the Holy Family, it was inaugurated in 1870; the facade consists of a large central door and two side doors. At the top there are two small balconies and two large bells. On the upper part of the central door there is a plaque with the writing: "To Jesus, Mary and Joseph, protectors of the Cassibilesi". Inside the church there are several paintings and three altars; on the larger one there is the painting of the Pietà by Angelo Trevisani, on the left there is the painting San Giacomo taken from the Martyrdom of Pompeo Batoni and on the right altar there is the painting Conversion of St. Matthew by Paolo De Matteis and The Sacred Heart of Jesus.
On the small altar on the left there is a crucifix made of cypress wood, sculpted in 1700 by a Syracusan. Inside the church there are also two angels carved in wood made in Paris in 1781, where the Loffredo marquises were at an invitation from the embassy of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
